I am so glad that I have girls and tonight is an example of why I am so glad.
Every evening as I cook dinner I fill the sink with water and soap for Madeleine to play in. And I also take advantage of the sink full of water--as I cook I put my dirty dishes in it to soak. Usually Madeleine's play consists of using a cup to scoop up water and then pouring it back into the sink. Tonight though she did something different.
As I was cooking I suddenly realized that the dishwasher was open. That was strange--I didn't open it. Then I look at Madeleine. She is using the scrub brush to scrub the dirty dishes and is putting them in the dishwasher!?!!? And she is actually doing a pretty good job. She had taken the lids off the sippy cups and put the cups upside down in the top rack. She was putting the bowls and plates on the bottom rack and the silverware in the basket.
I about fell over from the excitement and shock. The only time I have had someone besides myself do dishes is when I have company and they help. And now I have a little helper. I am just giddy with excitement. But I don't want to make a big deal about it--I don't want her to know how much I enjoy it because she may use it against me one day. I can just see the day "OK mom, I will do the dishes if you let me stay up until 10."
