We are trying to teach Madeleine that she should take turns talking--especially when we are eating. Her natural instinct is to monopolize the conversation with her stories of her make believe brother and the things he breaks. But we are working really hard to teach her not to interrupt and to let everyone have a turn telling their stories.
At the table tonight, Madeleine and Joel had the following conversation.
Madeleine: "...and then my brother broke the table!"
Joel, trying to steer the conversation to REAL events: "Madeleine, what did you do today?"
M: "Shhh! I am talking to Mommy right now."
I couldn't help but laugh since Joel had said the exact same words to her only a minute or two earlier. There he was getting shushed by a three year-old so that she could tell stories about her imaginary and very violent brother. Don't you know Joel, it was her turn to talk?!?
