Grandma's Quilt

One of the biggest events of our Thanksgiving holiday was presenting Grandma with her quilt. On Oct. 30th, Grandma turned 80. We weren't able to be in town for her actual birthday, so we presented her with her present Thanksgiving Day.

The quilt was a collaboration. Gary, Frank, and their friend Mary did 90% of the work (they cut all the pieces, pieced it, quilted it, and all the other work that is required to make it a quilt). I photoshopped all the pictures, printed them on special fabric, attached the photos to the quilt blocks, trimmed them with ribbon, and then had a friend embroider birth and marriage dates on the squares. Steven and Jess helped foot the bill for all the supplies. Garry, with a little help from Frank and I, actually stretched the quilt out, attached the backing, and quilted it at Grandma's house over the holiday (that is the pictures you see above).

For those of you who don't get to see the quilt in person, it is a family tree quilt. We started with photos of each of my grandparents family and then we showed the birth dates and marriages of everyone in the family from my Grandparents to little James that was born this summer.

This was a really fun project. The best part was presenting it to Grandma and knowing how much she will enjoy it.
