Night #3 in Big Girl Bed

Last night was Miriam's third night in the big girl bed and yesterday was her second day to nap in it. It went great. I really thought that last night would be the night for trouble. When we moved Madeleine to the big girl bed a couple of years ago, it was on the third night that she realized that all she had to do was get out of bed and then she was free. But Miriam hasn't even attempted to get up.

I think the success so far is from two things--Madeleine's good example and the video monitor. Despite Madeleine initially trying to lure Miriam out of bed with taunts of going potty, Madeleine is actually really good at staying in bed. Madeleine leaves her bed maybe once or twice a month. So Miriam has a good example. And after the first night, I explained to Madeleine that she needed to stop talking about getting up to go potty and that put a stop to her trying to get Miriam to go potty at night. Basically I think that Miriam has learned from Madeleine that, despite being able to freely get out, she is expected to stay in bed.

The video monitor has also helped. Any time I see Miriam getting a little too active in bed (sitting up too much or bouncing around) I can quickly tell her to stop before it has a chance to progress to getting up.

It is going well but I am still keeping my fingers crossed--I will be very surprised if she never tries to get up and wander around.
