Well we have all survived the first major injury to one of the kids. Wednesday at Taekwondo, Madeleine fractured her thumb. Class hadn't even started and she was running up to the front of the room. But she didn't see the teenage boy in front of her. She smacked right into him and flew backwards. I wasn't there (she had ridden with her friend). Apparently she cried for a minute and then got up and finished class. At the end of class, the instructor was high-fiving the kids and noticed that her hand was swollen.
Joel and I looked it over that evening and decided that we would just wait until the next day to take her to the doctor. We could tell that it really hurt her but she could still move it. Since Thursday was her Valentine's party, I waited until after that to take her in.
We went to the pediatrician first. The doctor looked it over and referred us to a pediatric orthopedist. The other doctor took xrays. Madeleine was such a big girl. She went with the nurse all by herself to get xrays done since I needed to stay with the other two girls! The xrays showed a small hairline fracture at the base of the lower thumb bone--nothing serious and it will heal quickly. She will get the cast taken off in 3 weeks.
