But the biggest event for our immediate family happened as we were loading the car. Miriam was giddy with excitement at the trip and was running in circles on the wood floor in the kitchen. Then she fell, and she fell HARD. She had definitely hurt her shoulder and was in severe pain. Joel and I checked her over but couldn't see anything wrong. We were hopeful that maybe it was just a bad bruise so we started out on our trip. We started out at 6pm, and she soon fell asleep in the car but we could tell that she was still in pain. We stopped for the night in Lamar, CO (about 3.5 hours from home). When we got in the hotel room, we could tell immediately that we need to take Miriam to the hospital.
So what was wrong?!? A broken collarbone. Yes, you read that correctly, our little 3 year old broke her collarbone. The doctor couldn't really do anything for her. He gave her a sling and recommend lots of Advil. She is still in some pain but is doing better. If you look in the pictures that follow, you will see her blue sling in some of them.
When we got to Texas, our first big event was Hannah's first birthday. It was a great party--bubbles, tutus, and an ADORABLE cake. Look closely at this awesome cake. The most amazing part is that it is homemade--Betty and Jim worked all night on it.
