Bye, Bye Fuffy--maybe

We are making Madeleine give up her fuffy (her name for her pacifier). We officially took it away yesterday. I told her that all her fuffies are gone to new babies because big girls like her don't need fuffies. She has handled it very well--she has asked for it but hasn't cried when we told her that it was gone. Well, she handled it well until an hour ago. She had been asleep a couple of hours and she woke up screaming. She didn't say anything but lay there screaming and crying for at least 10 minutes. I tried everything--changing her diaper, getting her juice, singing to her, giving her Tylenol, etc. Nothing worked. Finally, I broke down and got the fuffy. She quieted down immediately. Now I will have to take it back in the morning. Arghh.

I am a wimp. I should have faced the inevitable and just let her cry it out. If she continues to pitch fits at night, I will eventually have to just let her cry it out. If we are going to take away the fuffy, I can't just give it back to her when she pitches a fit or she'll be pitching fits all the time. Being a parent sucks sometimes.
