Almost crawling

Well Miriam is just about ready to start crawling. For the past few months she has been getting around pretty good by rolling (she is so good that she can roll into different rooms). But now she is almost ready to crawl. She is doing the army crawl now (she stays on her belly and pulls herself around with her arms and pushes with her feet).

Tonight Joel and I tested her to see how far she would go. We sat about 4 feet apart and Joel tried to get her to army crawl to me. That didn't work--she just rolled over and wanted to play. But then Madeleine came over with her snack (a bagel). Miriam was instantly fixated on the bagel. So Joel sat it just out of her reach. And she army crawled right over. Then he moved it. And she kept army crawling. We continued to move it as she crawled to it. We were able to get her to crawl from Joel to me, around me, and back to Joel. So for about 8 feet she army crawled.

At the end, we felt like it would be too cruel to just give the bagel back to Madeleine. So I got Miriam a piece for her to chew on. The picture you see above is Miriam enjoying the fruits of her labor.

I am ready for Miriam to crawl because I am ready for her to give Madeleine a run for her money. Right now Madeleine just harasses her, and I think that it is time that Miriam gets to harass Madeleine ;-)
