Madeleine has friends

and I don't just mean that she plays with random kids at the playground. She has actual friends--little girls who come knock on our door and ask if Madeleine can come play. And little girls at the gym who shout "Madeleine" when we arrive and then run up to see her.

I just don't understand how someone who is only comprehensible 50% of the time can have so many friends. Do these kids understand more of what she is saying than I do? Or do they just not care that they sometimes have no clue what she is saying? I think that they just don't care. Some of her little friends are older--from 5-12 years old. I think that they enjoy playing baby with her (and incomprehensible speach is what is expected of a baby). And she also has several friends that are just about her age (one is a little Russian girl who speaks very little English--they just shout "hey girl" at each other and copy each other's actions, its hilarious). The only problem is that she isn't able to go play outside by herself with her friends--so I am spending a lot of time at the park lately.
