Tonight I realized just how old I am getting--and it has nothing to do with my kids. I have lost the sense of embarrassment that come with youth. And I used to have a VERY strong sense of embarrassment. For example, as a teen I was mortified by any mention of any sort of personal hygiene product in front of members of the opposite sex. (Oh nooo, they can't know that I wear deodorant!?!!?) But tonight I realized that my sense of embarrassment over such matters is completely gone.
In the laundry room, I was getting laundry out of the dryer. A college kid came into get his clothes out of the dryer also. Of course, as luck would have it, his dryer was below my dryer. I was trying to be careful, but I ended up dropping a pair of my underwear right on his head. Before I even realized it I made a joke about it.
Hello!?! I just dropped my underwear on his head! I shouldn't be cracking jokes; I should be turning a deep, dark red. I can't be this old! Next thing you know I will be pulling my kids' pants down in public to check the status of their diapers (oh, that's right, I already do that!). Where's my youthful sense of shame and embarrassment?!? It can't be gone yet!
