Two weekends of festivals

Living around here we are never at a loss for something to do. It seems as though there is a festival (or fepbells as Madeleine calls them) somewhere close by every weekend. And we have gone to festivals the past two weekends. I love taking the kids to festivals--it wears them out! But most of all I enjoy exposing them to the different cultures represented at festivals.

Last weekend we drove to Vail for Octoberfest (yeah, they have their months confused). On the drive there we got to see the first snow of the year on the mountains--I couldn't believe it, snow in early September. Madeleine had a blast at the festival. They had a kids tent with a guy playing guitar. Madeleine danced to the music and had a great time. Then we went on to the main stage. There was a traditional German group playing. Madeleine danced some more. And then they brought out some huge Swiss Alp looking horns (they were about 12 feet long). We were all fascinated by those. We all ate bratwurst and potato cakes. It was a fun afternoon.

This weekend we stayed closer to home and went to a festival in a neighboring suburb. The festival was pretty generic but we had fun. Madeleine got her first taste of cotton candy. Surprisingly, she wasn't too impressed. She took about 3 bites and was ready to go play. I ended up being forced to eat the rest of it ;-)
