We tried to get home to Denver, which was an absolute failure. Our second blizzard of the year has rolled through Colorado and New Mexico. Yesterday we got stranded in a hotel in Clayton, NM. The roads coming into and going out of Clayton are all closed and will remain so until tomorrow. The real issue is the wind. The blowing snow means zero visibility and 14 foot snow drifts across some of the roads.
All the hotels in town are full of stranded travelers. The biggest issue is food--all the cars are trapped in the parking lot due to the huge snow drifts. Fortunately one group of men were able to get their truck out. They, very nicely, volunteered to go to the grocery store for everyone. So now we have lunch meat and bread. Now our only issue is keeping the girls entertained. Thank goodness for cable TV and Christmas presents.
By the way, don't watch my blog for photos of this blizzard. I decided that photos aren't worth digging through several feet of snow to get to the back end of the Expedition.
