OK, Miriam might not be a certifiable genius, but she is mighty smart. She is speaking in sentences! OK, just one sentence but she uses it ALL the time. She says "I want that!" And sometimes she says "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy I WANT THAT!"
She walks up to whatever that may be (typically her bottle or her blanket), tugs at my leg, and points. She doesn't just use this important declaration with me. I often hear her telling Madeleine, "I want that!" while pointing to whatever wonderful and exciting toy that Madeleine is playing with. Miriam also uses this tactic with Joel when he is eating cookies--"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, I WANT THAT!"
Today, though, was the most interesting use of her sentence to date. I was cleaning the house, and I got a little warm. So I turned the thermostat down. Well I guess I got it a little too low for her. She drug me into the laundry room (where we keep our coats), and kept pointing up at the coat rack, "I want that!" I kept giving her strange looks and walking away (I just wasn't getting what she wanted). Finally she got my attention enough to realize that she wanted her coat. She ended up wearing it for a couple of hours. She definitely picked a very useful and important phrase.
