Kitchen Remodel Part 2

Here are some of the things that we are going to do to the kitchen.

Below is the best sample I could find of the cabinets we are going to use. Ours will be made out of Cherry (I think that this is some other wood) and ours might be a slightly different color. We aren't putting in new cabinets; we are refacing our existing cabinets and adding an island and a hutch. Plus we are having the cabinet guy make a new mantle for the fireplace.

Below is a sample of the granite counter tops that we chose. The only difference is that ours will have a little more black and less red in it. What I am really excited about is the under-mount sink we are going to get. I think that those look really cool.

Since our cabinets and counter tops are so dark, we picked the paint color below. Yes, I picked a color out of the Pottery Barn catalog. I think that it will be a nice bright neutral and hopefully make the room look sunnier than it is.

We are going to install natural-colored Bamboo Flooring. We originally wanted to just extend out the existing hardwood flooring. But then we found out that the builder used some weird wood size that nobody sells, so we couldn't find anything to match it.

Now we are going to have to tear out the wood and the carpet and install new flooring in the kitchen, dining area, and main floor hallways. The really amazing part is that we are going to do it ourselves -- well, I should say Joel is going to do it, while I help.

As we move forward, I will post some pictures of our actual work. We actually have already started with some work. This weekend Joel ripped out the little desk (we are taking it out and the cabinets above it so that there will be room for a little snack bar on the island). We are going to put be putting in the new floor starting next Saturday.
