I was tagged!

So I have been tagged for the following survey. And this time I am going to participate!

A.The rules of the game are posted at the beginning.
B. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

What I was doing 10 Years Ago:

10 years ago I had just started my first post-college job. I was working in downtown Dallas as a Technical Writer for Southwestern Bell. I lived in "Uptown" --a trendy area just off of downtown. I had a great time. It was such a fun job and a fun part of town to live in--walking around downtown, eating at all the "cool" restaurants, living in a cute apartment, becoming addicted to Starbucks, shopping way too much (it was the first time I had "real" money).


5 Things on my to-do list today: Actually this is for tomorrow since it is almost bed time!

1.Clean out the garage. The cabinet maker is starting work Monday morning on our new cabinets. He has to set up his equipment in the garage. So I need to get it presentable!

2.Go to Home Depot to browse cabinet handles. I think that I know what handles I want but I need to go look. Maybe I can find a few choices to buy for Joel to select from when he gets back from his trip (he's in Texas hanging out with his brothers).

3. Play in the basement with the girls. I finally got it all organized like I wanted it and we have been going down there to play every day.

4.Prepare Valentines cards for Madeleine! She had to have 22 cards ready for Wednesday's party. Thanks to my mom she has the cards. Now we just have to fill them out.

5. Take a nap!!

Snacks I enjoy:

Fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers, trail mix, chex mix, popcorn--I tend to like the saltier things for snacks.


Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

Hmmm. First I would set up college and savings accounts for all of our girls. I would also make sure all of my family was taken care of. Then I would pay off our house and finish remodeling it. And for fun I would go buy a minivan with 4-wheel drive!! After that I would just sit back and relax.

3 of my bad habits:

1. When I am nervous I clean out my fingernails with my teeth. YUCK!! I never chewed my nails but I can't keep them out of my mouth when I am nervous.

2. I say "yea" way too much in conversation.

3. I am a picker--I will pick at scabs, holes in my clothes, stains on furniture. If I can get my fingernail underneath it and pry it up, I will. A very bad habit.

5 jobs I have had:

1. Small business owner--I have owned a technical writing consulting firm and a children's clothing store. I will NEVER own a store again but I loved doing the freelance technical writing.

2. Assistant to the Vice President and Legal Counsel of a hardwood floor manufacturer.

3. A waitress at Denny's (when I was in college). I worked weekend mornings when it was REALLY busy. Typically I worked 6am until noon. I loved it because I could earn enough over the weekends to pay rent and bills. Then I could just go to school during the week.

4. Technical Writer and Training Developer. I have a Masters in Technical Communications (basically an English degree in business writing). After college I developed documentation for computer related stuff and developed online and classroom training for corporations.

5. A mom! I love staying home with the girls.

5 things people don't know about me:

1. I love to write!! That is why I know that one day I want to work again. I really enjoyed all my writing jobs (even the ones when I was writing about boring telecommunications junk ;-). I want to try working from home but I am going to have to wait until the kids are a little older. Toddlers just don't understand about "work."

2. I attend a women's bible study every Monday night. I love my little group of women. They are all really smart and we try to challenge each other to think about our lessons.

3. I love to read. If I have a good book the family can forget about dinner, a clean house, or having a conversation with me. I usually read an entire book in 2-3 days--I just can't put them down once I get started. Because of this, I try not to read more than one book a month. Until the kids get older, I just have to satisfy my love of reading with magazines and the Internet which I can read in short bursts.

4. I love the show American Idol. I am completely addicted to it. Joel and I have gotten Madeleine into it also. She will play "American Idol" by getting dressed up in dress up clothes and singing songs. She even stops to give high-fives to imaginary audience members. She is a real showman.

5. I want to live in another country. Not permanently--just for a year or two. I love the idea of being submerged in a new culture. Where would I live? I would live just about anywhere that was economically stable and free of war/terrorism. Except for the Asian countries--I have no desire to eat that much fish or rice ;-)
